Health and Safety Award for Durakerb

At the recent 2008 IHT (Institution of Highways & Transportation) Award Ceremony, held at The Guildhall, London, Phil Sutton of Durakerb received the IHT/Highways Agency Health & Safety at Work Award. Durakerb was judged to have " stood out above all others and that widespread adoption would significantly reduce personal injuries, is innovative, and has environmental merits ".

The revolutionary Durakerb was also Commended in the IHT/Halcrow Environmental Award and the IHT/Ringway Award for Innovation categories.

Judges commented that Durakerb provided " a local solution to a national problem " and that it was felt to be particularly innovative in both functional and environmental terms, by taking a waste product which does not break down in landfill, and turning it into a serviceable product which has been used within many highways schemes across the UK.

The product has been methodically developed from original vision to actual production, and is said to provide substantial benefits when compared with conventional kerbs. Durakerb has been installed in an impressive number of applications, including the A1 London-Edinburgh-Thurso trunk road in Northumberland early in 2007.

Phil Sutton, Director, was highly delighted to receive this prestigious award, in addition to the product also recently having been awarded HAPAS certification (Highways Authorities' Product Approval Scheme) by the British Board of Agrément.
