Ronacrete Update
Twickenham tries it out
Twickenham Stadium, the largest rugby union stadium in Britain, was recently enlarged to provide seating for 82,000 backsides, making it the second largest UK stadium, second only to Wem-ber-lee.
'Twickers', as those of the RU tradition affectionately refer to it, is the spiritual home to Rugby Football Union and the home ground for England's rugby union team. The stadium is considered an icon of English rugby and hosts other major concert events such as The Rolling Stones, Genesis, U2 and The Eagles.
Recently the blacktop paving outside the stadium was renewed and paths and walkways were applied on top of the new 'mac.
Ronacrete's Ronadeck Resin Bound Surfacing System was applied at a thickness of 15mm by contractors F M Conway Ltd to create decorative, slip-resistant pavements for the fans of sport and music who use the stadium's facilities every week.
Ronadeck Resin Bound Surfacing System was supplied direct to the site in easy to use packaging. The product, comprising a two-component polyurethane resin together with aggregates, is pre-measured and packaged for easy on-site mixing using a forced action mixer. The two component non-yellowing resin was mixed with a drill and paddle mixer and added to the dry aggregate, mixed and then laid onto the prepared surface.
Within just four hours the new surface was ready for the feet of the famous and of their many fans.
Importantly it satisfies the SuDS regulations allowing rainwater to quickly and easily drain through the permeable surface, is slip resistant and is quick and easy to lay.

It does what it says on the tin
With eight distinct product groups and many products in each, it has sometimes been difficult for the uninitiated to work their way around the Ronacrete product range. However test marketing has shown that changing the names of the products to something more meaningful allows customers to more quickly find the product they need.
In light of these findings, the company has re-defined their various products into eight "divisions" and made some serious product name changes.
The eight product divisions:
- Concrete Repair and Protection
- Screeds
- Commercial/Industrial flooring
- Waterproofing and Tanking
- Hard Landscaping
- Safety Flooring
- Urban Design
- Highway Maintenance
The company claims that by concentrating their efforts and increasing production volumes they can buy raw materials at lower prices, streamline production and reduce operating costs; this has enabled them to hold prices for the second year resulting in no general price increases. Potentially some of the products may show a reduced selling price which UK Sales and Marketing Manager, Daren Chambers, hopes will allow customers to win more business.
The recently revamped website represents the new product divisions shown above, and new user-friendly info sheets will support each product. Products will have clearer product names. For example, Monoset RX has been re-branded as RonaFloor Repair 1 Hour 6-50mm.
Daren says,
"We expect this exciting change to help us increase our market share locally and globally and maintain and improve our position and reputation in the construction specialist chemicals industry. Changes in formulation will improve ease of use, introduce products which are truly environmentally friendly and green and aid your stock control and handling in the warehouse and on site."
Commenting specifically on hard landscaping products, Daren cointinues,
"We now offer even more than before in Ronadeck Resin Bound mix designs and have changed the ratio of aggregates and resins for ease of site use. We are proud that in a very short time we are now recognised as being one of the top three manufacturers in the UK for resin bound surfacing and anticipate increasing our ranking this year. This success is as a result of being ' the contractors friend ' in terms of product performance, ease of mixing and application, and even our support and site service is now described as ' the best '. Our Resin Bonded systems are being increasingly specified as are Ronadeck Tree Pit systems especially by local authorities with plenty of growth to come."
New price lists are available on request as Excel spreadsheets or hard copy. Please email to request your own copy.
The new prices came into effect on the 1st June 2010 with any previous project related terms still remaining in place.
