Sealant Trials - Vulcaseal 286

Many of the other samples had a stage photograph taken one week after initial application. For complicated reasions involving lack of time, necessity to help with care of grandchildren, and general incompetence, this product was accidentally missed out.

After 10 months — Result after 10 months (March 2016)

Summary:

Application:

1st coat: Clear, slightly cloudy liquid. No odour. No foaming and almost reluctant to penetrate substrate. Dries to barely perceptible finish.

2nd coat: Pools at first, reluctant to take but does so eventually, when spread by roller

Comments:

What a poor result! The sealant has had no apparent visual effect, and, to make things so much worse, there is a massive growth of algae in a strange L-shape.

This sample, as with all the others, was moved around the shed roof over the course of the trial, but for some reason that it's not been possible to identify, between Spring and Summer this very geometric marking appeared, almost as though the sample had been overlain by another sample, which most definitely was not the case.

So: no enhancement of colour and no improved resistance to algae. Just what has this candidate provided?

Comments:

It's not easy to come up with anything positive for this product. Oh: of course! The geometric algae seems to have washed off with ease!

Sadly, the stains are all left behind.

Not good at all.

Note: Any apparent variation in colour of the flagstone is due solely to changes in the condition of the natural daylight at the time the photograph was taken.

Other than cropping to exclude extraneous background and adding a drop shadow to the cropped image, there has been NO post-processing of the original photographs.
